This small butelegant building is the Little Sound Attic. It was built in 1949, and is now a listedrelic. This little building was a donation by a political organization called theLittle Sound Club. It is a small local group which publishes bi-monthly magazine,named Little Sound, criticizing the civil war policy of the KMT government.
Theinscribed board on outside door has calligraphy by the former vice Chairman ofthe National People’s Congress Hu Juewen. The inside board is by another formervice Chairman, Zhu Xuefan. There is a document on the history of the LittleSound Club displayed in the attic.
The standingstone pillar in front of the house is a Tang Dynasty Sutra Pillar, which isover one thousand years old. This is a well preserved relic. There are two suchancient structures in this garden; another one is located to the front of the SouthHall. However, it was hit by lightening and lost the top part.
Stone sutrapillars appeared during Tang Dynasty for religious worship. This kind ofreligious architecture became popular and common in the Song Dynasty, and then disappeared.
The figurescarved on the pillar are fat but graceful and poised. This is typical in styleof the Tang Dynasty craftsmanship.
