This is FragranceVeranda, located to the south of the Mandarin Duck lake. The structure is builtalong the curvy bank of the lake, so it is also curvy. In the garden of thebuilding there are osmanthus, chrysanthemum, plum, orchid, mixed with bamboo,there is a fragrance for all seasons.
Please enterfrom the west side, in front of you is a pavilion on the water. Stop here, lookthrough the moonshaped door, you will see the pavilion, the zigzag bridge, andthe lake, as if they were framed in a picture. This is a technique in Chinese landscapearchitecture. Many openings are designed to form a framed picture with thebackground scenery.
On the northside of veranda, there is one purple plena peony which was planted one hundredyears ago, it has grown to a large size. Its blossom has a diameter the size ofa bowl. It has a record bloom of 62 blossoms. There is another old purple plenapeony on the south side, which is 96 years old. Every spring when these twomagnificent peony plants are in full bloom, the Peony Club of Guyi Garden has agettogether here. This is an annual event in the garden, to promote the traditionalculture rooted in the charm and scent of the peony in forms of peony"Aromatic" charm. The local people and tourists all come to see theflowers in bloom in Spring - and the scene has a wonderful air of festivity.
